Home is Where the Heart Is

So, a few days ago, I got an IM from a client of mine Elaina from Elaina Janes Photography, "Hey lady! Do you do custom projects?" It had a link to a photo of a pillow that had a fun appliqué of a state done in various patchwork. I'd seen these before in various shops around the area, and a few online so I didn't feel as if I was pilfering someone's pattern, and being married to the Map Guy, I'm pretty sure I had access to the state boundary maps. So, after 3 nano seconds of thought I IM'd back with a, "Oh SURE!"

So after a quick discussion with the Map Guy, I had a great print up of the state she wanted (Kentucky), access to a few mini charm packs, and my ever so reliable Heat and Bond it was game on.  So this is what I came up with.

Plus, I made this sweet tiny one as well!

So, should anyone be interested, you can find them here!

#48 "Red's Bakery" {May 2104}

“Red’s Bakery"
Size: 32" w x 26" h
Pattern: Self designed checkerboard and show fabric center
Fabrics:

Thread: Aurifil Quilt Patchwork and EmbroideryThread - White (2024) 50wt
Backing: Red Rooster Fabrics, A Stitch in Time with Mother Goose by the Vintage Workshop

So as it turns out, I can't keep a surprise or a secret to save myself. I tried, but yeah, I spilled the threads, per se. As a thank you to the sweet friend who made those divine Frost Bite Cookies, Elizabeth from Red’s Bakery, I wanted to make her a banner/quilt/sign that she could use. Thank you again, Elizabeth, for being our Family Cookie Dealer! Thank you even more so for saying hello again!

#47 "Prism" {May 2104}

"Prism"
Size: 48" w x 48" h
Fabrics:

Thread: Aurifil Quilt Patchwork and Embroidery Thread - White (2024) 50wt

I made this quilt for my amazing quilter friend, Karie Jewell from Two Kwik Quilters who, despite what life has thrown her, still has a smile on her face and a song in her heart.  She is the true essence of a prism and refracts her beautiful light to all of us.

This quilt is the last one that I make of V and Co’s "Ombre Flying Dutchman.” As much as I LOVE her patterns, a girl can only make the same one a few times without going bat-crap crazy and needing something new!  I LOVE the fact that Karie let me play with the blocks so I could pick a whole bunch of colors. I had a grand time playing with all the different ombre’s too, what a great tool for shading and movement!

#46 "Do or Do Not, There is No Try." {May 2104}

"Do or Do Not, There is No Try."
Size: 42" w x 62" h
Pattern: "Amazing Jelly Roll Quilt" by 3 Dudes
Fabrics:
Island Batiks "Courage"
Thread: Aurifil Quilt Patchwork and Embroidery Thread - Cream (2021) 50wt
Backing: Kona Solids - Chocolate
Batting: Warm and Natural
Binding: Kona Solids - Chocolate

This quilt started out as something totally different.  And then I had a headache.
I have to admit I fought like crazy with this design; I just could not for the life of me figure out what this fabric wanted me to do with it.  I knew it was going to a young gentleman who is graduating high school in a few days, and then on to college and then on to the Marines. I din't want something uber feminine but it also needed to be fun and funky.  Hence the move to the 3 Dudes design (which, FTW, easy, fun, great pattern to play with). I put it away, I pulled it out, I put it away, you get the picture. Finally I just said I needed to try to force this, hence the title.
I sure hope this brings Matthew lots of comfort and a bit of home as he heads off to his new adventures!
